CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
All platform presentations at WSC will be part of the Conference’s accredited continuing education offerings in 2010. Instructions on how to comply with the accreditation requirements are listed below.
Residents and Fellows Research Presentations – Management and Clinical Programs 2010
Presentations by residents and fellows should include standard educational presentation components (see “educational components” below). All presentations will be included in the continuing education offerings for the Western States Conference 2010.
Residents and fellows must select the most appropriate single Platform Presentation Category from the three broad categories listed on the Platform Categories page and select one (1) sub category from the list provided with that category.
Educational Components --- the presentations for continuing education programs must:
- Be developed to meet the objectives for their category (see Platform Categories)
- Be complete, and have all requested information regarding the presentation submitted on-time and in proper format.
- Comply with the following program guidelines.
- Programs must be educationally-based and must not include any promotional materials.
- Funding sources and any ties between speakers and funding sources must be disclosed.
- Presentations must be fair, balanced and equitable regarding all products available for the topic of presentation.
- Generic product names must be used in presentations.
- No promotional materials may be distributed at the program.
- Any proprietary information or results of ongoing research that may be subject to different interpretations must be clearly identified. All potential conflicts of interest and a disclosure statement must be included in the presentation on a slide immediately following the first slides. (The template statement is located in the POWERPOINT LCD PRESENTATION CHECKLIST (PDF), see slide #2 details and will also be posted on our web site, www.wsc-rx.org)
- On the 4th slide of the presentation, each presenter must include three pharmacist pre-test assessment questions that relate to their category objectives.
- On the concluding slide of the presentation, each presenter must include three pharmacist self-assessment of learning questions that relate to their category objectives.
- Additionally presenters must provide the attendees with a handout which may include a copy of their slides; however it must include a take home tool for pharmacists. This tool is intended to be used to gain more information on this topic (e.g., a suggested readings list, links to web sites with additional information) or other helpful tools such as algorithms or assessment tools.
