CREATING AND PRESENTING EFFECTIVE POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS
- KEEP IT SIMPLE
- Express one idea per slide
- Use bold copy
- Maximum of 6 to 7 words per line
- Use color for highlighting and continuity from slide to slide
- Consistently align slide images horizontally (not vertically)
- LAYOUT
- Be consistent in layout from slide to slide
- Position content (especially titles) at top of slide
- Leave a margin all around
- Accentuate with color or bold type of boxes
- COLOR
- Color gets better attention and aids in comprehension and retention
- Use color to add emphasis or isolate specific data
- Use color to differentiate among multiple plots on a graph
- Red, yellow and blue colors have the strongest visual impact
- Background color can be used to group slides with a common theme
Helpful Hints:
HAVE AN INTRODUCTORY SLIDE AT THE BEGINNING (after your required slides) AND A SUMMARY SLIDE AT THE END (prior to your questions slide)

- USING THE PROJECTOR
- Focus and align the projection unit before your talk
- Check operation of remote control before your presentation
- USING POWERPOINT
- Projection specialists will be available for assistance
- Use a blackout slide to divide a series of slides
- Use only the recommended font types
- Align text horizontally -- not vertically
- Avoid text too close to the edge of the slide
